Information | October 2022 - Due to the damage from Hurricane Fiona, Kenomee Canyon Trail is closed until further notice. Please respect trail closure notices and signage. Kenomee Canyon Trail is a spectacular 18-km wilderness hike into the Economy River Wilderness Area along the edge of the Economy River gorge. It is a challenging, full-day or overnight hike and is for experienced hikers only. The trail follows the Economy River gorge, passes by Newton Pond and Newton Lake and includes spur trails to waterfalls on Chain Lake Stream and Murphy Brook. The trail has several stream and river fords, with no bridges, with the exception of one large bridge just above Economy Falls that you cross as you start/finish the loop. Length: 18 km loop Hiking time: Allow at least 8 to 10 hours to complete the hike. Trail surface: footpath, wilderness standard, no bridges (other than one bridge immediately upstream of Economy Falls), must ford streams and river Rating: "challenging" Camping: Use only designated wilderness campsites at Chain Lake Falls and Murphy Brook. Campfires are not permitted in Economy River Wilderness Area for ecological reasons. Hikers are to follow the orange trail markers. Directions to trail: To access the trail, follow Route 2 west to Economy. Turn north onto River Phillip Road (unpaved road, rough sections), follow road and signs for 7 km to upper parking area near Economy Falls. Follow trail to Economy Falls.
